Vehicle Pre-maintenance Inspection Task Plan

The following inspection shall be carried out before maintenance of any cars:

• Ensure the car is parked in a level ground and safe work area.
• Find out about any known faults from owner and outline reported faults.
• Take and record reading of kilometer mileage of the car.
• Confirm engine oil change out due mileage.
• If mileage of the car exceeds 50,000Km, determine gearbox oil change mileage and recommend gearbox oil change-out if due.
• Carry out visual inspection of engine and check for cleanliness level of engine and signs of oil leaks on top cylinder. Recommend engine washing, if engine is dirty and recommend repairs if oil is confirmed leaking from top cylinder.
• Check engine oil level with dipstick and recommend top-up if oil is below gauge.
• Check windshield washer fluid level and top-up if below gauge.
• Check power steering fluid and look for signs of leakage in pump, hoses, gear box, and/or rack and pinion assembly. Recommend repairs if leaks are observed.
• Inspect coolant fluid level and confirm radiator tubes are not exposed.
• Inspect master cylinder for leaks and damage. Check for fluid that is discolored, or showing signs of contamination and recommend troubleshoot if observed.
• Check brake fluid and recommend replacement if due.
• Check transmission oil level and recommend top-up if below gauge,
• Remove and examine air filter for dirt and debris. If the filter is too dirty to perform its job, recommend replacement
• Remove and examine AC filter for dirt and debris. If the filter is too dirty to perform its job, recommend replacement.
• Check belt tensioner, timing belt, power steering belts, radiator fan belt are functioning properly. Recommend replacement if any of them is damaged.
• Visually inspect ignition wires, look for signs of wear recommend replacement of any one that is damaged
• Inspect battery for excessive dirt, corrosion of terminals/cable/trays, leakage or swollen battery case, loosed battery posts etc. Recommend tightening if loosed.
• Inspect tires (including spare tire) and confirm conditions. Also confirm they are properly inflated to the right pressure. Recommend tires should be inflated if low pressure is observed or tire alignment or repairs, if any problems are observed.
• Confirm jack, wheel spanner and jump start are available in the car. If not available, recommend that owner should buy these equipment
• Walk round the car to check passenger side body, drivers side body, front end body, rear end body, roof, windscreen, windows, passenger side mirror, drivers side mirror and report any findings.
• Check underneath the car for any signs of fluid leaks. Recommend fluid leaks investigation if any signs of leaks are observed and report findings.
• Start car, listen to sounds for abnormality; record dashboard warning lights, if any,
• Test horn and confirm working condition. Recommend replacement if damaged. .
• Check operation of headlights, signal lights, brake lights, back-up light, interior light, license plate lights, parking lights, hazard lights and report any findings.
• Inspect dashboard, interior mirrors, gauges, car stereo, car seats & floors.
• Check car fuel level and snap pictures of the fuel level for record.
• Monitor temperature gauge while car is on to ensure there is no overheating. Recommend car cooling system inspection, if overheating is observed
• Confirm AC is cooling. If not cooling, recommend AC troubleshoot & repairs.
• Inspect wiper blades and check for bent, torn, or missing blades and recommend replacements, if wiper blades are damaged.
• Confirm radiator fans are functional, while engine is running.
• Carry out test drive to determine if there is any problem that has to do with steering and suspension (U-joints, Ball Joints, CV Bolts, Shock & Struts etc). Carry out steering and suspension system troubleshoot, if symptoms are observed.
• Determine if there is any noise from brakes or sign of malfunction brakes of brake disc during test drive. Remove all four wheels, inspect brake pads, brake calipers, brake disc and brake rotors if any symptoms of brake problems are observed.
• Technician to determine if there are any symptoms of gearbox problems during test drive and recommend gearbox maintenance & repair if symptom is observed.
• Determine if the car is overheating during test drive and recommend troubleshooting and repairs of car cooling system, if overheating is observed.
• Any other faults observed during test drive shall be noted and reported.
