TASK PLAN FOR TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE-OUT
Task Plan
1. Park the vehicle on a level and stable ground.
2. Apply the parking brake and use wheel chocks/wedges to prevent any movement.
3. Carry out pre-maintenance inspection and report existing findings to the customer.
4. Allow the transmission to reach the manufacturer-specified service temperature, where applicable.
5. Safely raise and support the vehicle using an appropriate vehicle lift or approved jack stands.
6. Position the transmission fluid drain pan underneath the transmission drain point.
7. Remove the transmission drain plug/pan plug as applicable and allow the old transmission fluid to drain completely.
8. Remove the transmission oil pan, where applicable, and inspect it for excessive metal particles, sludge or other abnormalities.
9. Remove the old transmission fluid filter.
10. Clean the transmission oil pan, magnet and mating surfaces thoroughly.
11. Install the new transmission fluid filter and replace the pan gasket/seal as required.
12. Reinstall the transmission oil pan and torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
13. Reinstall and torque the transmission drain plug using the manufacturer’s specified torque.
14. Fill the transmission with fresh transmission fluid meeting the vehicle manufacturer’s exact specification.
15. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
16. With the brake pedal firmly applied, move the transmission selector through the required gear positions as specified by the manufacturer, then return it to the required position.
17. Check and adjust the transmission fluid level at the manufacturer-specified transmission temperature.
18. Inspect the transmission, drain plug and oil pan for fluid leaks.
19. Carry out a final diagnostic scan, where applicable, and clear/verify any service-related fault codes.
20. Lower the vehicle safely and remove the wheel chocks.
21. Carry out pre-delivery inspection (PDI) and report findings to the customer.
22. Record the fluid type, quantity used, filter replacement and any observations on the service documentation.
23. Deliver the vehicle to the customer.
JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS (JSA)
- Prevent the vehicle from moving by using the parking brake and wheel chocks.
- Ensure the vehicle is properly supported before working underneath it.
- Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
- Allow hot transmission components/fluid to cool to a safe working temperature where necessary.
- Avoid direct contact of transmission fluid with the skin.
- Wear appropriate protective gloves and safety goggles.
- Avoid spilling transmission fluid on the workshop floor because it can create a slip hazard.
- Clean up any spilled fluid immediately.
- Keep transmission fluid away from ignition sources and hot exhaust components.
- Use the correct fluid specification; do not mix incompatible transmission fluids.
- Dispose of used transmission fluid and filters in accordance with applicable environmental/waste-disposal requirements.

Important
The exact transmission-fluid specification and quantity should be confirmed from the vehicle manufacturer’s service information/VIN before filling. Do not determine the specification solely from the fluid’s colour or the transmission’s appearance.
